Quesnel – Where the Rivers Meet Bluegrass Jamboree

April 14, 2009 Author: Mike

Held every spring in Quesnel, Where the Rivers Meet celebrates bluegrass, a unique form of jazz, blues, and country music. Many of the province’s best bluegrass players show up to jam and partake in the games. Two of the activities involve mixing up all the musicians so that everyone can get to know one another through their music. The Band Scramble features names being drawn from a hat to determine who they play with; the Circle of Friends is an informal acoustic jam held on the audience floor to encourage participation from both professional and amateur musicians.

This year’s jamboree featured these bands: Floyd and Friends, Making Memories, Mud River, Jim and Helen, Sound of the North, Lakeside Ramblers, Greer Valley Blackbirds; and many of Quesnel’s local bands, such as Twin Rivers, Doug Davis and Friends, Ellaine and Friends, and many more.

The event took place over four days and had a few hundred people in the audience – a far cry from the early days, when only a few dozen would show up!
